The City of Germantown supports the success of the Germantown Municipal School District. In addition to financial support for operational and capital needs, City departments support district operations through collaborative partnerships, programs and services.

On Target Satisfaction with Germantown Municipal School District operations

Description

Percent of respondents indicating somewhat satisfied/very satisfied with the Germantown Municipal School District's overall job of providing high quality operations based on results obtained from the City's annual community survey.

 

Analysis

The 2023 community survey shows that 78% of surveyors were very satisfied or satisfied with the Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) operations. GMSD has maintained a consistent satisfaction score over the past three community surveys. Compared to the 2018 survey, the score increased by 6 percentiles. The school district is continuing to strive to meet the needs of their student body and stakeholders. In response to meeting student needs, GMSD opened the doors to  Forrest Hill Elementary in 2019 to better accommodate the overflow of students and to help meet students needs in a better environment. In addition, the City and GMSD are working together to ensure capital needs are met for each school. The City and GMSD are working to continue to find ways to accommodate students needs to help make the school district become the number one school district in the state of Tennessee. This question is asked through the Citizen Survey from a random selection of residents which may consist of residents who do not have a child enrolled at GMSD.

Caution Germantown Municipal School District: ACT Scores Ranking

Description

The ACT is a standardized test designed to show colleges how prepared students are for higher education by measuring their reading comprehension, knowledge of writing conventions, and computational skills. It essentially serves as a nation-wide college admission test.

 

Analysis

Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) continues to have the highest district ACT score in fiscal year 2023. For fiscal year 2023, Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) highest ACT Composite Score was 23.9. Furthermore, 70% of the students who took the ACT scored a 21 or higher. GMSD scored 7.5 points higher than Shelby County School District average and 5.7 points higher than the State of Tennessee average. An ACT score greater than 24 is considered excellent. GMSD is continuing to work to ensure that the students attending schools in the district are fully equipped academically to continue to improve and become the #1 school district in the State of Tennessee.

On Target Germantown Municipal School District: Ready Graduate

Description

A Ready Graduate is a student who graduated on time and demonstrates college or career readiness by earning a composite ACT score of a 21 or higher, participating in early postsecondary opportunities, and/or meeting the criteria for career readiness, military readiness, or industry certification.

 

Analysis

This measure show the results of students who graduated on time and demonstrated college or career readiness by earning a composite ACT score of a 21 or higher. As well as participated in early postsecondary opportunities and meeting the criteria for career readiness, military readiness, or industry certification. In fiscal year 2023, GMSD's Ready Graduate score is 69.90% which is 3.5 percentile better than fiscal year 2022 results.

On Target Germantown Municipal School District: Graduation Rate

Description

The four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate is the number of students who graduate in four years with a regular high school diploma divided by the number of students who form the adjusted cohort for the graduating class.

 

Analysis

The Graduation Rate for Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) is a performance measure that is tracked by the State of Tennessee. For the school year 2022-2023, GMSD has a graduation rate of 93.7%.  The School District is continuing to be ahead of Shelby County at 80.1% and the State of Tennessee at 89.8%. Since fiscal year 2015, GMSD has shown steady improvements of the Graduation Rate at Houston High School. By continuing to have a strong graduation rate, GMSD is heading in the right direction of being the number one school in the state.
