public_safety_iconFire protection services result in low property loss and no fire deaths.

Fire suppression and prevention activities result in low dollar loss in relation to affected properties, and low injuries and deaths from fire. This is achieved through fire code enforcement including review of development projects, inspection of new commercial buildings and annual maintenance inspections of all commercial occupancies. Fire prevention activities, featuring an aggressive public fire education program, reduce the risk of fires, injuries and deaths. Citizens are educated and take precautions to protect their families and property. Adequate fire fighter staffing, training, equipment, apparatus and strategic station locations help to control fire loss.

Caution Ratio of total estimated value of fire loss to total appraised value of residential property

Description

Residential fire dollar loss per $1 Million appraised residential property value. This is found by dividing the total residential fire loss by the total appraised residential value in $M. This basically shows the level of fire loss in our residential community.

Analysis

Although the Fire Department had approximately 12 residential fires of significant loss during 2017, the loss in some fires was high, resulting in higher overall dollar loss.  Included is a Condominium fire and a suspicious barn fire. The Fire Department will continue fire prevention efforts aimed as residential fire safety, as well as fire codes that build in safety to reduce the chances of significant loss.
