Analysis

Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) has maintained a consistent satisfaction score over the past two years. The school district is continuing to strive to meet the needs of their student body and stakeholders. In response to meeting student needs, GMSD opened the doors to Riverdale Elementary at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. Furthermore, the City and GMSD have began the process for the new school to better accommodate the overflow of students and to help meet students needs in a better environment. The City and GMSD are working together to continue to find ways to accommodate students needs to help make the school district become the number one school district in the state of Tennessee. This question is asked through the Citizen Survey from a random selection of residents which may consist of residents who do not have a child enrolled at GMSD.

Description

The ACT is a standardized test designed to show colleges how prepared students are for higher education by measuring their reading comprehension, knowledge of writing conventions, and computational skills. It essentially serves as a nation-wide college admission test.

 

Analysis

Germantown's ACT score average is the highest district average in Tennessee for the third year in a row. For fiscal year 2017, Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) highest ACT Composite Score was 25.5, which is the highest in school history. Furthermore, 83.1% of the students who took the ACT scored a 21 or higher. GMSD scored 7.7 points higher than Shelby County School District average and 5.4 points higher than the State of Tennessee average. An ACT score greater than 24 is considered excellent.

Description

College readiness is based on students who possess sufficient mastery of key cognitive strategies, key content knowledge, academic behaviors, and contextual knowledge. These key mastery skills can be determined based on the ACT in which students must hit a certain score on each section of the test indicating whether they are academically ready for college.

 

Analysis

In fiscal year 2017, Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) shows that 56.7% of students are proven to be college ready based on the ACT. This is 12.7 percentage points above the target. GMSD made a 7 point increase to their College Readiness score compared to fiscal year 2016. Compared to Shelby County School District and the State of Tennessee, GMSD has shown higher percent of College Readiness for fiscal year 2017 and 2016. GMSD is one of the leaders in Shelby County for College Readiness and is continuing to strive to maximize student potential.

Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) is continuing to sustain an above target graduation rate for fiscal year 2017. GMSD graduation rate of 92.75% is out performing Shelby County and the State of Tennessee. The district is continuing to have a focused commitment to retention and graduation of its students. Whether providing foundational strategies, early interventions, mentoring/tutoring, or record collection and tracking of students, GMSD is dedicated to creating a caring, supportive environment where students can thrive and achieve.
