Percent of respondents indicating somewhat satisfied/very satisfied with the Germantown Municipal School District's overall job of providing high quality operations based on results obtained from the City's annual community survey.

 

Analysis

Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) has maintained a consistent satisfaction score over the past three years. The school district is continuing to strive to meet the needs of their student body and stakeholders. In response to meeting student needs, GMSD opened the doors to Riverdale Elementary at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. Furthermore, the City and GMSD have began the process for Forest Hill Elementary to better accommodate the overflow of students and to help meet students needs in a better environment. The school district is looking to open the doors of the new school in August of 2019. The City and GMSD are working together to continue to find ways to accommodate students needs to help make the school district become the number one school district in the state of Tennessee. This question is asked through the Citizen Survey from a random selection of residents which may consist of residents who do not have a child enrolled at GMSD.

*The City did not administer a Community Survey in FY19; however, the City is looking to administer the survey in FY20.

Description

The ACT is a standardized test designed to show colleges how prepared students are for higher education by measuring their reading comprehension, knowledge of writing conventions, and computational skills. It essentially serves as a nation-wide college admission test.

 

Analysis

The ACT scores ranking is a measure that is measured by the State. At this time, the school district has not received the results for the fiscal year 2019 school year. Once GMSD receives an update this measure will be updated. Based on prior years, GMSD is improving each years and out rank both Shelby County and the State of Tennessee. GMSD is continuing to meet the academic needs of students to ensure that they are prepared to take the ACT.

Description

College readiness is based on students who possess sufficient mastery of key cognitive strategies, key content knowledge, academic behaviors, and contextual knowledge. These key mastery skills can be determined based on the ACT in which students must hit a certain score on each section of the test indicating whether they are academically ready for college.

 

Analysis

The percent of College Readiness performance measure for Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) is a measure that is tracked by the State of Tennessee. However, at this time, the state is looking to revamp this measure to a "Ready Graduate" indicator.  Currently, the State does not have the information available for the School District. Since fiscal year 2016, GMSD has shown improvement each year and have had better scores than Shelby County and the State of Tennessee.

Since fiscal year 2015, GMSD has shown steady improvements of the Graduation Rate at Houston High School. GMSd as maintained a better rate than Shelby County and the State of Tennessee over the last three fiscal years.
